Data Destruction and Electronic Recycling Services

Onsite Data Destruction can provide a wide array of services to handle all of your electronic data destruction and recycling needs. Electronic recycling services are provided by Hesstech, LLC, one of the leaders of responsible recycling in the nation.

All of our programs are tailored to each client’s specific goals, and designed to maximize the resale value of working usable components and equipment including the reclamation of scrap plastics and metals. All data is certified to be removed from hard drives or other storage media. All obsolete or non-working equipment is demanufactured and shredded to assure equipment will not be shipped to processors overseas, where unsafe working conditions and improper disposal often exist.

Data Sanitization Procedures

In the past, only highly skilled professionals could retrieve data from drives that were cleansed by deleting partitions and formatting the drive. Today, data recovery software can be purchased at your local retailer, making the risk of data loss higher than ever. To further complicate matters, products such as fax machines, printers, copiers, PDAs, cell phones, and more may contain confidential data. The vendor you select to perform these services should not only display competency to address all these issues, the procedures should be validated using software that protects against false positives. A site visit witnessing the process and/or a description of services is not sufficient. What happens when you’re not witnessing the process is what matters. The keys to any secure program are documentation and the ability to confirm a validated process was performed on each unit for every job.

Hesstech's Data Sanitization Procedures

All hard drives processed by Hesstech go through a data sanitization process, unless the client specifies other requirements. The standard for any equipment is to perform a validated disk overwrite procedure using software approved by the DOD and capable of performing a wipe compliant with the DOD 5220.22M standard. If the overwrite cannot be performed and verified successful, the hard drive is physically destroyed by shredding. A successful, verified overwrite is one completed with no errors and no bad sectors reported, followed by a verification operation completed with no errors and no bad sectors reported. The tools we use conform to international data overwriting standards, which means Hesstech can provide other levels of sanitization if requested. We also track data sanitization at the media level. Hesstech can track data sanitization per drive, rather than per computer, providing details such as the drive’s manufacturer, make/model, serial number, size, type of overwrite performed, bad sectors reported, who performed the operation, and the success or failure of the operation. For physically destroyed drives, we can track the drive’s manufacturer, make/model, serial number, destruction method, and who performed the destruction. In both cases we still track which drives came from each computer, server, laptop or other device.

Equipment Valuation/Buyout

Valuations

A valuation of your equipment can help forecast budgets when planning for the acquisition of new equipment. Hesstech will determine the projected value of equipment and set a buyout price at the end of its lifecycle, providing funds to offset the cost of the retirement process or for the purchase of new equipment. Clarity at the beginning of the lifecycle regarding factors such as software licensing, essential components, and condition help you realize the greatest returns for remarket value. Hesstech works closely with its clients to assure the retirement process is easy and cost effective.

Buyouts

A proven track record for paying top dollar for surplus equipment is only part of what sets Hesstech apart; too often the missing component in a buyout transaction is a solution for equipment that cannot be remarketed for its original intended use. Hesstech combines its remarketing capabilities with demanufacturing services and provides a total solution for buyout or liquidation services. We audit our buyers and provide custody tracking to customers for every item sold. Only tested working equipment is sold. All other items are properly demanufactured and destroyed. We’ve been doing this since 1997. Let our considerable experience in market development, and unsurpassed commitment to customer service, work for you.

The Asset Recovery Program

This program is designed to assist clients in maximizing returns for newer or higher-value equipment. Clients benefit by offsetting or eliminating program fees by receiving revenue credits for equipment with resale value. Equipment or components are typically in good working condition and have market value. All equipment is tested for functionality. Credits for system level sales and component value from non-working equipment are applied to offset costs. All data is removed using a validated system for data sanitization. Obsolete or badly damaged units are demanufactured and destroyed, assuring there is a cradle-to-grave trail for every unit processed. Clients are provided a detailed Settlement Report generated from Hesstech's Secure Tracking And Reporting.

The Standard Recycling Program

The Standard Recycling Program is our most economical program, and is especially beneficial to clients with older, lower value, obsolete or non-working equipment. Clients are spared the expense of detailed diagnostic reports, and program fees are based on the projected value of any resalable equipment, components or scrap commodities. Clients are given a simple bottom line for proper EOL recovery or recycling. As with Asset Recovery Programs, all data is removed using a validated system for data sanitization. Obsolete or badly damaged units are demanufactured and destroyed, assuring there is a cradle-to-grave trail for every unit processed. Serialized inventory reports are available upon request.

Demanufacturing

Demanufacturing is conducted by either manual dismantling or shredding. Non-working or obsolete equipment is demanufactured, and components such as leaded CRT glass, batteries, mercury devices, liquids, and other materials are extracted prior to recycling or shredding for metals and plastics recovery.

  • Non-hazardous scrap commodities are shredded where 100 percent of the reusable metals and plastics are recovered.
  • All hazardous components (e.g., batteries, mercury switches, fluorescent lamps, and leaded glass from monitors) are removed, packaged properly and shipped in accordance with state, federal, and international regulations to audited recycling or disposal facilities for final processing.
  • All end markets for hazardous component disposal are audited, with records available for client review.

Remarketing & Liquidations

Equipment Remarketing

Unlike many companies who sell to just anyone, Hesstech carefully selects buyers who have established legitimate reuse markets and can prove equipment and components are not merely being shipped to facilities where some parts are extracted and improper disposal or unsafe working conditions exist. Credible buyers offer more stability, better prices, and reduce the risk of disposal liabilities.

Liquidation Services

Auctions and liquidation events are hosted by a myriad of organizations and are historically one of the most popular ways of cleaning out unwanted and/or obsolete equipment. Although many organizations have been in this business for many years and have expertise hosting auctions and selling equipment, few sufficiently address what to do with materials no one wants to buy. All too often this older or obsolete equipment is simply mixed with better equipment as a way to be sure it is sold. At best, this is simply passing the buck, putting the original owner at risk that the equipment will end up improperly processed for scrap recovery or disposed of illegally. Even if records of ownership transfer are provided, a liability may still exist if documents are not properly executed and/or the buyer cannot be located in the event of a disposal liability case. Further, it devalues the lot sold and is simply not right to use as a means to dispose of unwanted equipment.

Destruction Services

Regardless of the resale value, and although it's heartbreaking to destroy a truckload of brand new plasma TVs, Hesstech provides destruction services to its clients as required. Chain of custody can be tracked on a per-unit level from the point of origin to the point of destruction. Hesstech performs background checks on all employees, and facilities are secure with pass-through metal detectors for all employees and visitors, and 24/7 video surveillance monitoring. Video of destruction, real-time web reporting, and third-party validation services are available.
